Mission
The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Digital Standards Initiative (DSI) aims to accelerate the development of a globally digitalised, interoperable trade environment, as a key enabler of dynamic, inclusive growth. We engage the public sector to progress regulatory and institutional reform, and mobilise the private sector on standards interoperability, digital trust, and accelerated adoption of digital trade globally.
Operating Model
The Digital Standards Initiative (DSI) operates in accordance with the management standards of the International Chamber of Commerce and under the guidance of a Governance Board comprising leaders from the ICC, the Asian Development Bank, the World Trade Organization and the World Customs Organization.
We convene and engage with the public and private sectors through the Legal Reform Advisory Board (LRAB) and the Industry Advisory Board (IAB), as well as through specialist working groups focused on key areas of digital trade.
Principles & Practices
Adapt and Apply
We recognise that many standards for digital documents and data elements already exist. We do not develop new standards where existing standards are fit for purpose. Instead, we identify, map and recommend standards that can help advance interoperability across the trade ecosystem.
Convene and Collaborate
We convene relevant expertise across trade, law, technology and standards, fostering collaboration across the public and private sectors to advance digital trade in the public interest.
Transparency and Accessibility
We believe in open dialogue and inclusivity, publicly sharing our processes and considerations. Our commitment is to make information and resources easily available, fostering an environment where everyone can engage and contribute.

Our advisory boards bring together senior expertise from industry, government, multilateral organisations and standards bodies to provide insight and guidance across key areas of digital trade.
DSI Industry Advisory Board (IAB)
The Industry Advisory Board and its Working Groups have cross-regional and cross-industry representation, bringing together leaders across trade, finance, technology and supply chain operations. The Board provides industry insight into practical challenges and opportunities for digital trade and interoperability.
DSI Legal Reform Advisory Board (LRAB)
The Legal Reform Advisory Board comprises senior stakeholders across industry associations, multilateral organisations and regional economic communities to support and advance regulatory and institutional reform for digital trade.
